Assisting the Illiterate
A "What were they thinking?" moment

I know that we here in the United States cater to the lowest common denominator in our society. I've seen it for years in public education, and in society at large. We now live in an age where none should be excluded or offended, especially those with any sort of special needs. I don't need to go into any examples. We all have a million of them.
But, I have been continually dumbfounded by signs for libraries, like this one:

The icon is not the most intuitive image I've ever seen. When I first saw this, a few years ago, it took a moment to figure out it was someone reading.
Now, answer me this: Why can't the sign just read LIBRARY? If you can't read the word library, then you don't need to go there in the first place.
That's all I have to say about that.
